MARRIAGE -  CHILDREN

Text: Luke 15:11 (The Prodigal Son -Vodcast 5 min)

Marriage between and man and women is the product of their love for each other. As a result, a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh or will produce children (Genesis 2:24). God orders are clear - to be fruitful and multiply (Genesis 1:28).  Children are a gift from God (Psalm 127:3-5).

However, our children are soon grown. They pretend to dress in a manner of adulthood by their actions.  Little do they know that life is brutal and unkind. We, as adults, are keenly aware of what the world contains.  Consequently, we are highly protective of our children…to a fault. Soon the young adults will begin to fight you for their ‘freedom’.  In today’s lesson, we discover one young man who fits the bill. Only after his inheritance has run out via ‘riotous living’ does he return from whence he came in humbleness and submission.

God’s Special Care

The picture of the father receiving the son back into a relationship is a picture of how we should respond to repentant sinners as well (1 John 4:20-21Luke 17:3Galatians 6:1James 5:19-20). “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). We are included in that “all,” and we must remember that “all our righteous acts are like filthy rags” apart from Christ (Isaiah 64:6John 15:1-6). It is only by God’s grace that we are saved, not by works that we may boast of (Ephesians 2:9Romans 9:16Psalm 51:5). That is the core message of the Parable of the Prodigal Son.
