Mary the Mother of Jesus

Christmas Series (1 of 4)

Key Scripture

Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. The woman does not carry the seed but the man.

However, this woman would carry a seed, not by man. Mary has been given many titles, but which designation does she qualify? Here is the first introduction of Jesus Christ as the savior for mankind,

Mary Mother of Jesus

Isaiah 7:14 - Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

Matthew 1: 18-25 18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost…22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, 23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

God makes His Word factual through the scriptures of a miracle or virgin birth. first in Isaiah and then in Matthew.

Mary and Joseph

Mark 6:3 - Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.

Trying to make the carnal and not understanding the scriptures (spiritual) the people of that day attempt to apply logic to the Word of God.  Joseph and Mary were very distant cousins. Not uncommon in the Hebrew culture. as tribes intermarried. True to form Mary (Jesus) is a descendent of Judah, one of twelve sons born to Jacob, who was destined to deliver the Savior through his lineage Genesis 49:10

Mary The Immaculate?

God is very clear on 'who is to receive the credit for Jesus' entrance into this world. Especially as the savior.

Matthew 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

Luke 1:48-49  For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.

Exodus 34:14 - For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God

Isaiah 43:3 - For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt for thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee.

Isaiah 45:21 - Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the LORD? and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me.

Isaiah 42:8 - I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.

Mary - Mother of the Mediator

Galatians 3:19 - Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.

Timothy 2:5 - For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

Hebrews 12:24 - And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.
